I don’t have words…

to describe how I felt tonight watching the news about the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Katrina. It’s just incredible that this storm grew so quickly and destroyed so much. Our thoughts are with those who survived.

My daughter and her family WERE living in St. Bernard Parish. Their home, cars and everything they owned which was not in a green Plymouth Van are now underwater and a layer of oil in the town of Chalmette.

All got out safely but the house has been marinating for over a week now and will likely never be the same. They moved in this last February and spent thousands to get it in near new condition.

They are now residents of Baton Rouge but still have house payments and car payments on items which are beyond salvage.

St. Bernard Parish is as low as New Orleans and has water on three sides. When you drive down the main street you can see the wind-driven small waves lapping at the edges of shoulder for some of the trip.

There are no native Americans living in St Bernard Parish (see other comment about hurricanes).

Hi, Fred. I’m so sorry for your daughter and her family. I’m just glad they got out before the storm hit. What a horrible circumstance to be in.

It’s time to start listening to the native Americans.

    Kim
